Warwickshire Wheelchair Service receives award for LOLA

The Warwickshire Wheelchair Service recently won the Coventry and Warwickshire AHP Digital Innovation Award for their introduction of LOLA, the AI virtual clinical assistant, to manage their referrals.

Niamh Austin, who accepted the award on behalf of the Service said, “It was an honour to receive the AHP Digital Innovation award for 2024 on behalf of Warwickshire Wheelchair Service. Everyone in the service works very hard and LOLA is making our screening process quicker and easier! May LOLA continue the great work!

Charlotte Hutton, the Service Team Lead, said, “It was a wonderful surprise for the team to win the Coventry & Warwickshire AHP Digital Innovation Award this month, as we appreciate that there are many exciting initiatives out there at the moment. There has been a considerable amount of work undertaken to prepare, launch and run our live chatbot, LOLA, successfully with our Wheelchair Service users and their carers, so it has been lovely to receive the recognition for the work that has been undertaken.

The Digital Hub team have provided priceless support in customer on-boarding and launching LOLA to the service users and carers, which has enabled our team to focus on fine-tuning the chatbot conversation and reviewing the outcomes. LOLA continues to benefit the service and clients by gathering additional information in a timely manner which reduces the time spent for clinicians to screen referrals. This in turn has aided staff wellbeing as the process of screening has become more manageable with the additional re-assurance that priority cases are flagged.

We feel lucky to be in a position that the Trust is supportive of utilising new technology to enable a more efficient and effective service and this demonstrates the forward thinking ethos within SWFT. The award has been proudly framed and on display in our office as a reminder of how far we have come.
